Event Production & AV at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center
The Walter E. Washington Convention Center hosts some of the largest association and government-adjacent programs in the District. We produce the general session, the breakouts and the stream as one build, with our own inventory and crew staging from Maryland.
What the rooms ask for
Convention halls are wide, tall and acoustically live. A general session in a divided hall needs a distributed audio design rather than a pair of mains, and screen sizing has to be planned from the back row forward, not from the stage out.
Breakout rooms are a different problem: many small systems, running simultaneously, each needing a technician who can solve a laptop or a wireless issue without pulling crew off the main stage.

Load-in and building coordination
Convention center load-ins run on assigned dock windows, and the schedule is the production plan. We build load-in, focus, rehearsal and strike around the window we are actually given, and we submit certificates of insurance, rigging plots and labor requirements to the building directly.
Where the building or the show has in-house AV, electrical or rigging requirements, we coordinate that with the venue as part of the production rather than leaving it on the planner's desk.

Common questions
- Can you work alongside the convention center's in-house AV provider?
- Yes. Large convention venues have in-house providers and building requirements for power, rigging and dock access. We coordinate scope with them directly so responsibilities are clear before show day, and we handle the paperwork that comes with it.
- How large an LED wall can you build in the halls?
- We own our LED panels, processing and rigging hardware, so wall size is driven by the room, the rigging points available and the sightlines rather than by what we can source. We size it during the walkthrough.
- Can you stream a general session from the convention center?
- Yes. We build the stream as part of the room: multi-camera, program audio taken from the console rather than a camera mic, and redundant encoding and internet paths so a single connection issue does not end the broadcast.
- How far in advance should we book?
- Peak conference weeks in D.C. book months out, and rigging and labor calls have to be filed with the building ahead of time. Earlier is better, but we regularly take on shorter-notice programs. Send us the venue, the dates and a rough headcount and we will price the actual build rather than a range.
